Regional journalists have been given more time to enter a new award scheme that celebrates media freedom.

The Society of Editors has extended the deadline for submissions to its new Media Freedom Awards until Saturday 6 August.

The awards were launched earlier this year to celebrate the crucial role that UK journalists play in championing the public’s right to know and holding power to account.

They are free to enter and include categories such as Investigation of the Year, Campaign of the Year, Podcast of the Year and the News Media Organisation of the Year.

An additional category will also pay tribute to the late Society of Editors founding director Bob Satchwell.

The Bob Satchwell Award for Freedom of Speech, which cannot be entered, will honour an exceptional organisation or individual who continuously champions the public’s right to know.

The awards will culminate with a high-profile awards ceremony later this year on 9 November 2022 in London.

Full details on how to enter and categories can be found here.
