Journalist launches world record attempt in bid to save charity

Jo SiedleckaA former regional journalist is hoping to break a Guinness World Record by pushing a disabled man up the highest mountain in England and Wales.

Jo Siedlecka will push David Bainbridge in his wheelchair up Mount Snowdon in order to try and help save the Jubilee Sailing Trust, which gives people with disabilities the opportunity to sail on a tall ship.

Jo, pictured, will be part of a team of 12 will take it in turns helping get Mr Bainbridge up the mountain.

The 73-year-old worked for the Camden Chronicle and Camden New Journal during her career, and also served as deputy editor of the Westminster Record from 2006 to 2014. She has also edited Independent Catholic News since 2000.

Jo told the Ham & High: “We’re doing a crazy climb. We have to raise £1.5m by the end of the month or the charity goes bust.

“Everybody is madly doing different things. We wanted to do something that would go in the Guinness Book of Records.

“It’s never been done before, pushing a wheelchair up Mount Snowdon.”

Jo first heard about the Jubilee Sailing Trust while working on the Chronicle in the 1990s and has been actively involved with the charity since 2012.
