Journalism student earns ‘greasy takeaway’ after charity race success

A journalism student has helped to raise hundreds of pounds for charity after completing a race in the city where she studies.

University of Portsmouth student Freya Stanger took part in the Great South Run, recording a time of one hour and 15 minutes for the 10-mile course.

Freya, pictured, undertook the challenge as part of a team raising funds for the Friends of PICU.

The non-profit organisation raises funds for the paediatric intensive care unit at Southampton University Hospital.

Speaking to Portsmouth daily The News at the finish line last Sunday, the 20-year-old said: “I did the Great South Run last year but ended up being quicker this year, which I’m really happy about – it was much nicer weather which definitely helped.

“I am part of the university’s athletics club and have been raising money for the charity, which is such a great cause and has been a real inspiration while training for the event.

“Some of the boys finished a bit before me and my dad has taken part as well, so will be catching up with him when he finishes too.”

Discussing her post-race plans, Freya added: “I’m going to chill out and eat a fat, greasy takeaway.”
