Journalism jobs created as regional publisher launches new sports title

Journalism jobs are being created after a regional publisher launched a new specialist football website.

National World has announced the launch of 3 Added Minutes, which it says will focus on “unique, interesting and often left-field content” about the sport.

The website is initially being managed by National World head of sport Paul Clarke, with the group’s core football team producing its content.

But the publisher says a dedicated editor and team will be in place in 2023, with an as-yet unspecified number of roles to be advertised soon.

3 Added Minutes

The launch of 3 Added Minutes follows the creation of the group’s ‘World series of city news and sport websites covering London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester and Bristol.

Mark Thompson, National World’s director of digital content, said: “With our incredible coverage of football across historic brands such as The Scotsman and the Yorkshire Evening Post, there is a clear opportunity to use our expertise to build a website dedicated to fans of the beautiful game.

“3AddedMinutes.com is a website for all aspects of the game, from opinion and tactics to fashion and gaming. We truly believe that football isn’t just a game or a sport, it transcends all aspects of people’s lives and we want to reflect that in our coverage.

“We are just getting started with ambitious plans to grow the site into 2023 with a real focus on unique, interesting and often left-field content, away from the day-to-day noise.”

The move represents National World’s first foray into launching a dedicated online football title and follows similar launches across the regional press in recent years.

Examples include Reach plc’s London-wide platform Football.London and Newsquest’s club-specific titles The Celtic Way, Rangers Review and Sainstplus, which offer news on Celtic, Rangers and Southampton FC respectively for paying subscribers.
