Heatwave sparks online blackout for publisher’s websites

John Wilson HerefordNewsquest’s network of websites went down earlier due to an issue caused by the UK heatwave.

Readers were unable to access the publisher’s portfolio of titles online after high temperatures hit a data centre housing computer systems used by the group.

HTFP has approached Newsquest for further information about the issue, which was rectified this afternoon.

In a Twitter post, Hereford Times editor John Wilson earlier apologised to his readers for the problem.

John, pictured, wrote: “The Hereford Times website is currently down owing to a problem caused by yesterday’s high temperatures at a data centre we use in the south of England.

“We’ll be back online with all your updates soon. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

The Northern Echo also posted from its official account: “We’re having some issues with our IT systems this morning which are affecting all our Newsquest sites.

“We’ll be back up and running as soon as we can.”
