Former weekly journalists sought ahead of planned reunion

Roseanne Edwards 2022Journalists who worked on a weekly newspaper are being sought for a get-together of former staff.

A reunion is set to be organised for alumni of the Banbury Guardian on an as-yet unconfirmed date this summer.

The event will be open to anyone who worked in the Guardian’s newsroom, sport, photography, advertising, reception, graphics or management.

Current Guardian senior reporter Roseanne Edwards is helping to organise the event.

Roseanne, pictured, told HTFP: “At one time we had 50 people working in our offices in North Bar, Banbury.

“Many of us got together in the days of Band Aid and ‘the’ Royal Wedding, when Heart of England Newspapers and then Emap owned the paper – halcyon days when there were huge awards evenings at the National Convention Centre, Birmingham, with three course dinners, accompanied by full stage shows organised by and starring top management. It all seems a distant dream now.

“Many trainees went through the Guardian newsrooms. We all made friends and enjoyed numerous social occasions together

” Many have become lifelong pals. But these young men and women moved onwards and upwards into successful careers and sadly, contacts have been lost.”

Roseanne is planning to set up a Facebook page for “details and gossip about this event”.

She added: “Anyone who did work for any time at the Banbury Guardian will be very welcome to join us for what should be a very nostalgic trip down memory lane, hopefully in the sun of the summer.”

Interested parties can contact Roseanne on Facebook, by emailing [email protected] or via the Guardian’s Twitter page @BanburyNews.
