Former acting editor appointed second in command at daily

Garry Scott 2022An editorial chief who ran a daily newspaper on an interim basis for three months has been appointed its deputy editor.

Glasgow-based daily The Herald has announced the appointment of Garry Scott to the role after he served as the paper’s acting editor, prior to Catherine Salmond taking the reins in September.

Garry, pictured, has worked for The Herald for the past 14 years and has a background in features and opinion, as well as news and production.

He currently edits the award-winning weekend Herald Magazine and heads up paper’s opinion and comment pages.

Garry said: “The Herald has long been the home of in-depth journalism in Scotland.

“As we continue to develop both the paper and the website, our values of quality content, analysis, and a distinctive Scottish voice will set us in good stead for the future.”

Catherine, who announced his appointment to staff on Friday afternoon, added: “Garry is an immensely talented and respected member of our team, bringing a wealth of experience, energy and wit to the title and our newsroom.

“I am incredibly excited about working closely with him and delivering on our shared ambitions for The Herald. I wish him every success in his new role and thank him for his continued commitment to The Herald.”
