Editor ‘thrilled’ after promotion to region-wide role with publisher

Gavin Foster 2022A daily newspaper editor has expanded his brief after being promoted to a new role with a regional publisher.

Gavin Foster, who runs the Northern Echo, has now been appointed regional editor for Newsquest North.

The move will see him extend his role to support Newsquest’s daily and weekly titles in Cumbria, Yorkshire, the North-West of England and North Wales.

These include the Bradford Telegraph & Argus, The Press in York, the News & Star in Carlisle and The Mail in Barrow, as well as the Bolton News, Lancashire Telegraph, Oldham Times and the Wrexham-based Leader.

Gavin, pictured, announced his promotion in a Twitter post on Friday.

He wrote: “A bit of personal news. Thrilled to be appointed regional editor of Newsquest North – supporting my colleagues in Cumbria, Yorkshire, the North West and North Wales as we continue to engage and grow audiences.

“I will of course remain at the helm of the Northern Echo.”

Gavin joined the Darlington-based Echo earlier this year after serving as editor of Reach plc’s Newcastle-based Chronicle Live brand since 2020.

He was previously head of print and curation at JPIMedia daily the Sunderland Echo prior to making the switch to Reach, where he took charge of the group’s new Sunderland Live and Durham Live titles.
