Editor quits regional title to ‘pursue other interests’

Shelina BegumAn editor has left a regional title to “pursue other interests and projects” after a year and nine months.

Shelina Begum has announced her departure from TheBusinessDesk.com, where she served as its North West editor.

Shelina, pictured, has spent more than two decades in regional journalism, including five years as business editor of the Manchester Evening News before taking up her most recent role in March 2021.

Announcing her departure in a post on LinkedIn yesterday, Shelina thanked TheBusinessDesk.com’s joint managing directors Alex Turner and Lee-J Walker for their support.

She wrote: “Some personal and exciting news from me this Monday morning. After a brilliant two years with TheBusinessDesk.com I am leaving this week to pursue other interests and projects.

“I’ve had a wonderful time here, and it’s been great to be back doing business journalism as well as hosting and chairing more than 100 online and in-person events since the pandemic, but the time has come for me to move on.”

“As for what’s next, well keep your eyes peeled. I’m still very passionate about the region’s business community especially in the diversity and inclusion space, so you will definitely be seeing more of me in this area.

“I’m also looking forward to going back to my content marketing consultancy so do give me a shout if you want to see what work we can do together.”

Shelina’s replacement will be announced in the coming days.
