Daily launches ‘more important than ever’ Christmas food bank appeal

A city daily has launched a front page plea to feed struggling people on its patch as Christmas approaches.

The Glasgow Times is running its ‘Bank On Us’ drive that sees the newspaper join forces with dozens of food banks across Glasgow and the surrounding area.

Paper bags will be inserted into every copy of the Times today for readers to fill with donations and return, either to theit local food bank or publisher Newsquest’s print centre at Glasgow East Investment Park.

It is the fourth year the campaign has been run, with the Times telling readers it is “more important than ever due to the current cost-of-living crisis”. The paper splashed on the appeal’s launch last Wednesday.

Assistant editor Stacey Mullen said: “The Glasgow Times is proud to continue our Bank on Us campaign and support city food banks during the cost-of-living crisis.

“We know through serving our communities how hard food banks work to help some of the city’s most vulnerable.

“We hope through this campaign, our readers can ensure that their stock levels are boosted in time for Christmas.

“It is also a privilege to run a separate Christmas toy appeal to help struggling families over the festive period.”
