Daily journalist meets fictional counterpart on set of TV drama

A regional daily journalist has interviewed an actor who plays a fictional reporter at his newspaper.

George Carden, who works for Brighton daily The Argus, spoke to Alexander Cobb about his work in ITV crime series Grace.

Mr Cobb plays fictional Argus reporter Kevin Spinella in the drama, which is filmed in Sussex.

The pair spoke while the programme was being filmed on Bond Street, in Brighton, the same road as the newspaper’s office.

Discussing his role, Mr Cobb said: “It has been really fascinating getting insights into the career from journalist friends.

“Spinella is one of those journalists that likes to play around with what is ethically justifiable.

“The description in the books is slimy, ratty, spiky gelled hair, always chewing gum and wearing a trench coat. When you have that sort of that description, you know where it’s going.

“Spinella has a theatrical side to him as well, he loves the story and has a fascination for true crime.”

George also undertook a tour of the show’s production headquarters.

In a piece about his encounter, he wrote: “After taking a few snaps with Alexander, it was time to get a lift back to the office.

“In gritty true crime drama style, it starting bucketing down as I got back. What a fantastic experience seeing behind the scenes filming of Grace.”
