Daily editor takes new role overseeing patch more than 200 miles long

Dion JonesA regional daily editor has added two more titles to his portfolio – expanding his patch from North Wales to England’s border with Scotland in the process.

Dion Jones, who runs the North Wales Daily Post and its North Wales Live sister website, has been appointed editor of Reach plc’s Lancs Live site too.

Lancs Live also hosts a channel called Cumbria Live, meaning Dion now oversees journalists covering an area more than 200 miles in length.

His appointment comes after Luke Beardsworth, who became Lancs Live’s launch editor in 2019, left his role to set up Reach’s new venture Curiously.

The “social first content brand”, launched in September with the creation of 25 jobs, aims to attract younger readers.

Dion took charge of the Daily Post and its North Wales Live sister website two years ago following the departure of Andrew Campbell.

In so doing, he became the first Welsh-speaking editor in the Post’s 165-year history.

In his newly-expanded role, Dion will continue to report to Chris Sherrard, who is audience and content director for both North Wales Live and Lancs Live, as well as for the Liverpool Echo and Manchester Evening News.

HTFP has approached Reach for a comment on Dion’s expanded role.
