Charity concert to be held in regional entertainment writer’s memory

John HannamA regional journalist who died in September is set to be remembered at a charity concert.

The event, a nod to ‘Sunday Night at the London Palladium’, will be held in memory of Isle of Wight journalist John Hannam.

John, pictured, worked as an entertainment writer on the island for almost 50 years.

Prior to his death aged 80, he wrote for both the Isle of Wight County Press and Weekly Post and had his own show on Isle of Wight Radio.

His son Sean is staging the concert, which will be held at Shanklin Theatre in February.

Sean told Isle of Wight Radio: “Shanklin Theatre was a venue that my dad was very fond of – it’s where we held the wake for his funeral in November – so it’s very fitting that the tribute concert will take place there.

“As a nod to the showbiz TV series, Sunday Night at the London Palladium, I’ve called the concert Sunday Night at Shanklin Theatre – A Tribute To John Hannam.

“The line-up of performers will include national and local musicians who dad liked, admired and supported – most of whom he interviewed at some stage during his career.”
