Cartoonist who left daily after 23 years bounces back with new role

Graeme BandeiraA cartoonist who left a daily newspaper earlier this year after more than two decades of service has bounced back with a new regional press role.

The Northern Agenda has announced the appointment of illustrator Graeme Bandeira, who will provide a cartoon for its digital newsletter every Friday.

Graeme, pictured, left the Yorkshire Post in January at the same time as a raft of other senior departures amid a voluntrary redundancy scheme at its publisher National World.

At The Northern Agenda, Reach’s politics and public affairs title covering the North of England, he will team up with former Post colleague Rob Parsons.

Rob was poached from his role as political editor of the Leeds-based daily to edit the new venture last year.

Graeme, who won Britain’s Best Political Cartoon in 2020, said: “[It’s] fantastic to be back on the horse diving deep into the murky world of politics.

“I look forward to holding those in power to account and championing the North.”

Rob added: “I’m delighted to have someone of Graeme’s calibre contributing to our newsletter and am confident he’ll help The Northern Agenda reach a new audience across the North and beyond.”
