Student of the Year nominees revealed as NCTJ confirms awards date

The National Council for the Training of Journalists has revealed its shortlists for Student of the Year ahead of an awards ceremony next month.

The NCTJ has announced its Awards for Excellence 2020 will be presented in a virtual ceremony on Thursday 18 March in partnership with Sky News.

A record-breaking 417 entries were received across 15 categories, with most shortlisted entrants being revealed in December.

The NCTJ has now also unveiled its Student of the Year nominees.

They are Catriona Aitken, of Cardiff University, Anna Cooban and Ellen Halliday, both og News Associates London, Calum Johnson, of the University of Salford, and David Marriott, of the University of Sheffield.

The winner of the 2020 chairman’s award, which recognises a nominated individual’s outstanding contribution to high standards of journalism training and education, will also be announced at the event.

The virtual ceremony will be presented from the Sky News studios and will be live streamed at 6pm on the day.
