Shared housing plan revealed for weekly’s former headquarters

A weekly newspaper’s former headquarters is set to be converted into shared housing.

The old Kent Messenger offices in Middle Row, Maidstone, are due to redeveloped in plans submitted to Maidstone Borough Council.

Under the proposals, the building will provide serviced multiple occupancy units on the first and second floor, while retaining office accommodation on the ground floor.

According to the Messenger, designs submitted to the council now show five bedrooms each with their own ensuite facilities on the first floor, with a shared kitchen and diner area.

The second floor will contain four bedrooms, three with ensuite and one with a detached bathroom, all sharing a kitchen area.

The Messenger moved into the building, pictured above, in 1985 but left the site last year when its lease expired.

The paper is now based at Wonderhub, a few doors down Maidstone’s High Street.
