Reporter steps up to head of news as publisher reveals new appointments

Martina MoscarielloA reporter has been promoted to head up a weekly’s news operation as part of a series of promotions at a regional publisher.

The Salisbury Journal has announced Martina Moscariello will become its head of news as publisher Newsquest embarks on an expansion of its digital operations.

According to the Journal, six further appointments have also been made by Newsquest in the Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire region “which will see a new vanguard of managers step up to enhanced roles with a heavy focus on digital development”.

HTFP has approached Newsquest for details of the other appointments.

Martina, pictured, joined the Journal as a reporter 13 months ago from the Scarborough News, where she had worked since 2018.

She was previously a freelance assistant news editor at 5 News and has undertaken various roles in other TV newsrooms.

Newsquest announced last week it was investing £1.5m per annum in its digital expansion, with 50 new jobs being created as a result.
