Publisher creates editor role in bid to boost regional women’s football coverage

Jon BirchallA publisher is recruiting a new editor in a bid to boost coverage of women’s football across its regional titles.

Reach plc has announced the creation of the new full-time women’s football editor role in what it has called a “critical next step” for its sports reporting network.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading coverage on competitions including the Women’s Super League, Women’s Championship and Women’s Champions League.

The role’s creation comes after Reach revealed last month it was recruiting 76 journalists across the country in an expansion of its sports coverage.

Jon Birchall, pictured, Reach’s audience and content director (sport), told HTFP: “It is a hugely exciting time for women’s football in the UK, with both amateur participation and the professional game growing rapidly.

“We want to speak to fans of women’s football across the country, covering brilliant stories across a number of different platforms as the game continues to develop and become even more popular.

“This role is a critical next step for our sports network following a significant investment of 76 new roles across our regional and national titles this summer.

“We can’t wait for another brilliant season.”
