News site gives readers ability to mute fellow online commenters

Micheal McKennaA hyperlocal news website has launched a new comment function that will give readers the ability to mute and ignore fellow commenters.

Armagh I has introduced the new section, which it hopes will “build a community we can call our own”.

The new partnership with technology firm Viafoura will also give Armagh I users a personalised news feed and allow them to follow other commenters whose remarks interest them.

Readers will have to register with the site in order to comment themselves.

Editor Micheal McKenna, pictured, told HTFP: “As a fast-growing media company we are constantly looking at new ways of improving the user experience, as well as making our content more engaging to the tens of thousands of daily readers who visit our website.

“Direct and organic readership now outweighs the traffic of social media, in particular Facebook, and with Viafoura we will now be able to offer new and exciting ways to engage with that audience on our own platform.

“With the ever-changing Facebook algorithm and the impending loss of Google’s third-party cookie, we realised it was time to focus on building a community we can call our own.

“We are excited to get stuck in and work some of the new tools at our disposal, including the community chats, push notifications and live blogging.

“We believe this move will help us further expand on our brand as a reliable, fast-growing local news source with the website being that one-stop shop for news and reaction.”
