New title vows to showcase ‘independent, community-focused journalism’

BubblewrapA new London-wide title has vowed “showcase the best of independent, community-focused journalism” after officially launching.

The first edition of free weekly online newsletter Bubblewrap has been produced in a collaboration between independent publishers from across the capital.

HTFP reported last month that the online newsletter was being launched by Social Spider – publisher of the Waltham Forest Echo, Tottenham Community Press, Enfield Dispatch, EC1 Echo and Barnet Post.

It will also feature content from independent titles including Newham Voices, SE1, Peckham Peculiar, 853, Roman Road London, Fitzrovia News and Inside Croydon.

Bubblewrap editor Mariam Chaudhri said: “Bubblewrap aims to bring together and promote the work of independent journalists based in London.

“In this way, we hope to explore the similarities and differences between different boroughs; to give readers a broader picture of what is happening in their local area and around London. ”

Socal Spider editor-in-chief James Cracknell added: “With Bubblewrap we want to showcase the best of independent, community-focused journalism from around London.

“There has been significant growth in the independent media sector in the capital over the last decade, much of it in response to the ongoing decline of corporate-owned media, and we think Bubblewrap will be a great way to bring this rich and varied local journalism to a wider audience.”
