A former district reporter is set to stand for election in the town she covered.

Emma Vandore has been chosen as the Liberal Democrat candidate for a vacant seat on Sawbridgeworth Town Council.

Emma, pictured, was previously Sawbridgeworth reporter for the Bishop’s Stortford Independent when it began covering the town in 2019.

She will stand in a by-election for the seat on 6 May.

Emma told the Independent: “As well as deepening my knowledge and affection for our lovely town, I want to help our town council address the realities of life for young local working families.

“This motivated me to stand.”

She added: “One pressing concern is the traffic pressures likely to be caused by the new developments, particularly at drop off and pick up.

“Working with my Liberal Democrat colleagues – including county candidate Joe Dumont – I promise to work tirelessly to ensure this does not become unsustainable.”
