Ex-editor to appear on TV documentary about American killers

john-marquisA former editor is to appear on a documentary about a killer he describes as “one of the weirdest people I’ve ever met”.

John Marquis, who spent more than twenty years as a newspaper editor in the UK and abroad, will be discussing the ‘Mommie and Clyde’ killers Sante and Kenny Kimes, who were jailed for life after a con-and-kill spree across America in the 1990s.

John, 77, who was editor of the Falmouth Packet group in Cornwall for ten years, became interested in the Kimes family while managing editor of The Tribune, in the Bahamas, between 1999 and 2009.

He visited Mrs Kimes in a high security women’s prison in New York State ten years ago when she was campaigning for an appeal hearing. He then wrote a book, Evil and Son, about the encounter.

Mrs Kimes was described as “the most degenerate person I’ve ever met” by a US judge when she and her son were convicted of two murders.

The documentary, one of a series about families traumatised by having a killer in their midst, will be seen on Quest Red, available on Freeview channel 39, on Thursday 9 September.

It will be screened by other networks later in the year.

John, pictured, said: “This is the second documentary I’ve done about the Kimes family. It is a fascinating story.

“Mrs Kimes was one of the weirdest people I’ve ever met – and that’s saying something.”
