Editor decides to ‘slide away’ from office and run daily from Oasis-themed bar

A regional daily editor decided to “slide away” from the office to produce his newspaper from an Oasis-themed bar.

Steve Thompson, who edits the Bolton News, took on the challenge in a bid to highlight businesses on his patch that have been struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Steve worked on Tuesday from the Definitely Maybe bar in Bolton town centre, which pays homage to the Manchester band and also offers remote working spaces for businesses during the week.

Like Oasis, the operation is run by two Gallagher brothers – Paul and Mark.

In a blog about his experience, Steve noted there were no “cigarettes and alcohol” allowed at the venue during working hours.

Steve, pictured above at the bar, told HTFP: “Times have been really tough in Bolton with more Covid lockdowns and restrictions than anywhere else in the country.

“We want to do our bit to support local businesses and we loved this idea of remote working from a really cool bar that was nearly forced out of business by the pandemic.

“It’s a stone’s throw from our town centre offices and I can’t wait to take all the staff there for a well earned night out when we’re finally allowed.

“The owners there who are Bolton’s real-life Gallagher brothers were brilliant in accommodating us this week and I hope they have great success with this latest venture.”
