Reporter leaves sister weeklies after landing new national role

James ButlerA senior reporter has left two sister weeklies after landing a new features role with PA.

James Butler has announced his departure from JPIMedia to work with PA Media’s Real Life team, which focuses on human interest stories.

James, pictured, has worked for the Worthing Herald and Littlehampton Gazette for the past five years.

He said farewell to the two West Sussex titles in a series of posts on Twitter.

Wrote James: “After almost five years at the Worthing Herald and Littlehampton Gazette, it’s time for a new challenge.

“It is sad to say goodbye but I’m leaving with lots of great memories; working for a local paper really is such a fun job.

“I’ve got a new job. I’m back writing features as part of the PA Real Life team – so if you’ve got a tale to tell, from amazing weight loss, overcoming health adversity or something more eyebrow-raising, get in touch.”

Speaking to HTFP, he added: “For anyone looking to get into journalism, starting your career at a local paper is something I couldn’t recommend highly enough.

“Working for the Herald series expanded my horizons and gave me experience in areas I otherwise wouldn’t have known how to approach – like local politics and court – and I’m so grateful for the opportunity.”
