Photographer wins national award at fourth attempt

A regional daily photographer has expressed his delight after winning a national business photography award – at the fourth attempt.

Simon Hulme, who works for the Yorkshire Post, has been named Business Photographer of the Year at the UK Picture Editors’ Guild Awards.

Simon, 50, has been nominated for the honour for the past three years and is also a former Regional Press Awards winner.

His Post colleague James Hardisty, 48, was highly commended in the same category.

The awards were held in London earlier this month, but Simon was unable to attended due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Simon told HTFP: “You’re up against all the national photographers so to win that one was quite special.

“I didn’t manage to make it down [to the ceremony] due to coronavirus, so I was a bit disappointed not to go, but I’m delighted to win it.”

Post deputy editor Ian Day said: “This accolade demonstrates the true dedication and skill in producing top class photography for The Yorkshire Post.

“Both Simon and James produced excellent portfolios and they both deserve the honours from these awards.”
