Lyra McKeeA 52-year-old man charged with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee has now been named.

Lyra, who worked for titles including the Belfast Telegraph, was shot dead while observing a riot in Derry in April last year.

Paul McIntyre, from Derry, was arrested by detectives on Tuesday and taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite, in Belfast.

He is also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and professing to be a member of a proscribed organisation.

McIntyre will appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court today.

Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy said: “I have always said a number of individuals were involved with the gunman on the night Lyra was killed, and while today is significant for the investigation the quest for the evidence to bring the gunman to justice remains active and ongoing.”

Lyra, pictured, was 29 when she died.

She was honoured posthumously at last year’s Regional Press Awards, where the Bel Tel was named Newspaper of the Year.
