Local paper rebrands to feature county’s name in title

An independent local newspaper has rebranded with a new county-wide title.

The South Warrington News has announced it has changed its name to the Cheshire Times after 27 years in business.

Owner North West News Limited says it has made the change to the monthly title to “provide a stronger identity and wider awareness of the news and the qualities of Cheshire”.

NWNL says the free tabloid has “continued to expand geographically in recent years, bucking the trend for local newspapers across the UK and has gradually established itself as an important independent press presence across the county of Cheshire”.

It will continue to be published and run by NWNL owner and editor Brigid Hardman, while the South Warrington News name is retained in its masthead.

Brigid said: “We now intend to take our message forward, with our sole aim being to promote the people, trade, businesses, services, education, organisations and communities of the areas we serve.

“The new format is already proving to be a strong vehicle and I am determined to uphold its active role in keeping businesses and communities thriving and interacting.”
