Regional daily to produce magazine series recalling school days on patch

A regional daily is set to produce a series of free magazines highlighting school life on its patch through the decades.

The Dundee Evening Telegraph will run the publications each day for a week next month, with each magazine focusing on a different decade.

The Evening Telegraph will take from its archives, which it says are “filled” with school-related articles and pictures dating from the 1920s to today, to produce the magazines.

A call has now be issued to readers to submit their memories of their time at school.

In a message to readers, editor Dave Lord said: “Not many of us believed it at the time but there is no doubt – for many people school days really are the best days of our lives.

“But whether you liked it or loathed it, the chances are the school you attended had a major impact on the rest of your life.

“We hope this series will spark memories for local people, both of their own personal experiences and of the collective life of this wonderful city of ours.

“A trip through the archives is always interesting, and the research for this project has thrown up some truly fascinating images which we really hope our readers will enjoy.”

Good idea – providing it’s done properly and isn’t knocked out by a disinterested twentysomething. Picture archives are one of the few valuable and bankable assets newspapers have, providing they haven’t been lost during a move, which at least one of my former titles managed to do.
