Media awards unveil new categories but top newspaper prizes are merged

Four new categories have been announced for an annual awards scheme – although there is set to be just one prize given for best newspaper.

The O2 Media Awards for Yorkshire and the Humber have been officially launched for 2019 – with new categories this year for Emerging Talent, Best Documentary, Factual Programme, Vlogger/Blogger.

But, unlike previous years, there is set to be a single award for Best Newspaper, in contrast to two prizes usually given for Best Daily and Best Weekly.

Different judging criteria has also been introduced for the Community and Specialist Publication, Visual Media and Community Award categories.

However, the judging panel may decide to make additional awards after reviewing the entrants.

Nicola Green, O2’s director of corporate affairs, said: “Whether it’s writers delivering grassroots journalism or programme makers winning national acclaim, the awards highlight the impact the media has on our communities.

“We’re looking forward to another year of wonderful entries.”

Entry to the awards is free, and the deadline for submission is free.

Nominees will be invited to the awards presentation in Leeds on 4 July, where category winners will be crowned.

Entry forms and criteria information are available by contacting Rossiter Media on 01829 741371 or by e-mail request to [email protected].
