Front page wraparound marks daily’s football scoop

A regional daily ran a front page wraparound after landing an exclusive about a major stadium development.

The Nottingham Post printed the wrap after exclusively revealing plans for the redevelopment of Nottingham Forest FC’s City Ground home.

Paul Taylor, the Post’s Forest correspondent, broke the news of the plans, which would see the stadium’s capacity increase to 38,000.

The wrap was brought to life by page designer Jim Hallam.

Forest wrap

Mike Sassi, editor of the Post and its Nottinghamshire Live sister website, told HTFP: “Forest’s stadium redevelopment is very big news for Nottingham. The City Ground is an iconic venue – with the river on one side and Trent Bridge cricket round on the other. So it’s more than just Forest fans who are happy that the club is staying where it is.

“Since they arrived a couple of years ago, Forest’s owners have been keen to build bridges with the local community. In recent seasons, The Post (and Nottinghamshire Live) have had excellent relations with them.

“Our Forest correspondent Paul Taylor is well-known and well-respected among both fans and the club hierarchy so it wasn’t surprising that he manged to break the news. Page designer Jim Hallam put together a lovely wrap – and we had half a dozen detailed stories online before most people were up for breakfast.

“It was a great team effort. Something that the whole newsroom can be proud of.”

Well done – that’s using all the extra space effectively, and although these images may have been seen elsewhere by the time the Post was on the streets the size of the wraparound shows off the scale of the redevelopment a lot better than any screen.
