A regional daily editor has praised his journalists for stepping up their work “another level” to help readers celebrate a football triumph for their patch.
Saturday night saw Norwich City FC confirm their promotion to the Premier League after victory over Blackburn Rovers.
As a result, the Eastern Daily Press ran a souvenir special yesterday featuring a front page wraparound of City’s celebrating players.
The edition featured 38 further pages of analysis and photographs for fans to enjoy.
Editor David Powles told HTFP: “One of the many reasons I love being a journalist is the fact it puts you at the heart of everything that happens in the community you serve. Few things are as enjoyable, therefore, as covering football success, given how much the sport dominated people’s thoughts.
“I’ll unashamedly say that our sports coverage is already amongst the best in the country and the team work seven days a week to produce superb stories, analysis, videos, podcasts and more.
“These last few weeks, however, they have managed to go up yet another level and our readers have been absolutely lapping it up.
“Promotion had to be marked in a special way so an EDP front page wrap of the team celebrating, along with 38 more pages of analysis and photos, worked perfectly and has gone down a storm with supporters.”
A great effort undoubtedly..but will it be reflected in journalists’ pay packets?

Luckily, was in Norfolk yesterday so had the EDP delivered to my hotel room.
An excellent job by the Norwich team. The coverage was everything I had hoped for.
Well done.

Fantastic, unfortunately in Reading we have no significant newspaper capable of celebrating Reading’s narrow survival in the Championship!

The Eastern Daily Press always does superb Norwich City FC coverage. It’s a shame that its reporting of just about everything else has gone down the tubes in recent years.

@Archantlifer
They’re only doing their jobs to be fair so why should they expect extra pay?
This type of in paper supplement is a run of the mill sales driver and any parochial daily would do it if their local team achieved a promotion so no bonus can be expected, or is likely to be forthcoming.
