Editor leaves regional magazine after 11 years in charge

Richard EcclesAn editor has left a regional magazine after 11 years in charge and almost three decades working as a journalist in the county it served.

Newsquest has confirmed the departure of Cumbria Life editor Richard Eccles, left, who had run the title since October 2007.

Richard had also been responsible for a number of other titles including Carlisle Living, Dumfries & Galloway Life, In-Cumbria and Taste Cumbria.

Richard, a previous deputy editor of the Cumberland News, had worked in a journalist in Cumbria for 29 years before leaving the company at Christmas.

In a Twitter post, Richard looked back on “eleven amazing years creating our brilliant mags”.

He wrote: “Thank you to all the readers, subscribers, writers, friends, and advertisers who have supported the magazines, our brilliant team, and me personally over the years.

“Do keep following the magazine accounts, and this account for Cumbria stuff and what’s next with me in 2019.”

An announcement regarding Richard’s replacement will be made by Newsquest soon.

Jonathan Lee, managing director of Newsquest Cumbria said: “I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Richard for his contribution to the company, and wish him every success in the future.”

Confirmation of Richard’s departure comes after the announcement that three magazine editors working for Archant in the North of England were leaving their roles.

Louise Taylor is leaving Cheshire Life in February while Yorkshire Life’s Esther Leach is also bowing out.

Group editor Roger Borrell, who also edits Lancashire Life, has also announced he will step down in May when he turns 65.
