Daily shares in football fans’ joy with parade special edition

A regional daily shared in football fans’ celebrations with a special edition following an open top bus tour of its patch.

The Star, Sheffield, ran a front page wraparound showing the scenes from Sheffield United’s parade on Tuesday (7), which came after the club won promotion to the Premier League.

The Star also ran an eight-page pull-out inside the newspaper featuring pictures and colour from the event.

The parade was covered by a reporter on the bus, one in Sheffield’s Town Hall and one on the ground, while another digital reporter manned the live rolling blog from the office.

Star night editor Chris Holt told HTFP: “Anyone connected to Sheffield United has been in a constant state of celebration for what seems like a very long time now, since their promotion to the Premier League was confirmed.

“The open-top bus parade to the city’s Town Hall brought those celebrations to a conclusion, in an official sense at least, and so with that in mind for our wraparound cover we decided to take the focus off the players for a change and place it on the fans.

“It’s not always easy supporting Sheffield United but as the club have shown in recent weeks, you really have to enjoy the good times.”

He added: “It was a very quick turnaround to get that sense of celebration into print but praise must go to the small team of writers, photographers and production staff who worked incredibly hard to ensure Blades fans had an edition of The Star to cherish in the shops this morning.”
