Former daily editor joins press watchdog board

Ian MacGregorA former daily newspaper editor has been appointed to the board of the press watchdog.

Ian MacGregor, president of the Society of Editors and editor emeritus of the Telegraph Media Group, will join the Independent Press Standards Organisation’s majority lay board as an industry member.

IPSO days Ian’s “wealth of experience” will further strengthen the organisation.

Ian, pictured, was previously editor of the Sunday Telegraph and Telegraph weekend editor.

He has also served as deputy editor of the Evening Standard, editor of the Scottish Daily Mail, launch editor of Metro, news editor of the Daily Mail, and reporter with the Daily Express, Press Association, South West News Service and the Southern Evening Echo.

IPSO Chairman Sir Alan Moses said: “I am delighted to welcome Ian to the Board. His membership demonstrates the importance distinguished journalists attribute to IPSO and his wealth of experience will further strengthen the organisation.”

Ian added: “Throughout my career I have always been a passionate supporter of a robust, free press and treasured its importance in a democracy.

“Of course it is absolutely essential that news organisations maintain the trust and support of the public.

“That is why I am so proud to be joining IPSO, an independent and tough regulator with the highly respected Editors’ Code for working journalists at its heart.”

    Another Tory placeman on a toothless body. What chance any criticism of the Mail/Telegraph and dog whistle racism?!
