Daily splashes on double joy for football fans after World Cup win

A regional daily celebrated a double victory for fans on its patch on today’s front page.

England secured their first semi-final since the 1990 tournament after beating Sweden 2-0 on Saturday.

But the Manchester Evening News reported on a second victory for supporters, after revealing a plan by Manchester City Council to show this Wednesday’s match against Croatia on a giant screen in the city.

The screening at Castlefield Bowl outdoor events venue has been announced after a sponsorship deal was struck with Auto Trader magazine.

After splashing on the news this morning, the MEN has since been able to reveal online that two other giant screen events will be held on its patch on Wednesday.

They will be held at the Albert Hall concert venue and Victoria Warehouse, close to Manchester United Football Club’s Old Trafford home.
