Daily launches ‘virtual cinema’ guide to films made on its patch

A regional daily has launched a new ‘virtual cinema’ allowing readers to explore famous filming locations on its patch.

The Liverpool Echo’s project, called ‘Liverpool on the Big Screen’ allows readers to view information and 360° images of areas of the city sued in the production of famous films and television programmes.

By moving their mouse or mobile device around the screen, Echo readers will see seven specially made film posters for different locations and films or TV shows that were made in Liverpool and Merseyside.

They include the Fast and the Furious, Harry Potter, Peaky Blinders, the Three Graces, Alfie, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Captain America: The First Avenger and Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool.

Once readers click on the posters, they can view a panorama of the location, and click on links for trailers, galleries from filming, interviews and more information about the production.

Neil Macdonald, the Echo’s executive editor for audience engagement, said: “Liverpool is a beautiful city and so is a massive draw to film-makers from all over the world.

“If you’re like me, you’ve said ‘That’s Liverpool!’ when you’ve been watching countless films and TV shows over the years.

“Liverpool On The Big Screen showcases some of the most well-known locations which have been seen either as the city itself or doubling for places including New York and Moscow.”

The project is being run in association with technology company Holoscribe, Liverpool Film Office and Visit Liverpool.
