Regional press photographers have been urged to submit their best photographs from royal or political engagements for an annual contest.

The News Media Association’s Royal Photography Competition is welcoming entries, with Regional/Local Newspaper Rota Photo of the Year among the categories to feature.

A special category for photographs of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle together has also been included this year.

Entries must be received before the deadline of 12pm on 17 September, with an online public vote deciding the longlist.

A panel consisting of industry experts will pick the winners.

Mike Swift, of the Royal Borough Observer, won last year’s regional prize for a photo showing the Queen recreating Queen Victoria’s first railway trip to Paddington.
