A weekly newspaper helped save a fish festival from being abandoned after joining forces with a local council.
The Western Telegraph offered its services, along with Pembrokeshire County Council, amid fears Pembrokeshire Fish Week would not go ahead.
The festival, a celebration of the county’s link to sea and coast, was given up by organiser Milford Marina this year due to a busy summer schedule.
But thanks to the Telegraph’s support the event went ahead as planned, with the newspaper hosting a family Big Day Out as part of the festivities.
More than 3,000 people turned up to the event on Sunday, which featured a range of activities including a funfair, bouncy castle, pony rides, laser tag and birds of prey displays.
Other events marking Pembrokeshire Fish Week are taking palce across the county this week, including a crab and lobster lunch, fish barbecue, children’s cookery school and harbour festival.
Telegraph editor Steve Adams said: “The Big Day Our was a fantastic success, and we are so pleased to have played a role in helping launch this year’s Pembrokeshire Fish Week.
“Events such as this just go to show the community spirit that is so alive and well in our county.”
