Two editions of a weekly newspaper are set to be merged following a regional publisher’s review.
Newsquest said last month it was considering merging the Sale & Altrincham Messenger and the Stretford & Urmston Messenger into a single edition.
Now the company has confirmed the move will take place in the New Year, with the first single edition Messenger hitting the streets on Thursday 4 January.
The new-look edition will cover news from across the entire borough of Trafford.
The move arose from a strategic review which also led to the closure earlier this month of the Prestwich and Whitefield Guide.
A Newsquest spokesman told Altrincham Today: “The Sale & Altrincham Messenger and Stretford & Urmston Messenger will revert to a single Messenger brand, effective from Thursday 4 January.
“The Messenger will continue to provide local news content across both print and online media brands, serving the wider Trafford borough.
“The print edition will continue to be distributed direct to Trafford households and via selected retail outlets/partners as a free pick up.”
Incredible that they allowed the advert in the bottom left to run on this issue considering it’s placement next to the main news item.
Surely an editor or chief sub should have noticed the insensitivity of allowing this ad to appear and pulled them,
