Revived weekly plans coverage expansion after reader survey

A weekly newspaper revived by a family-owned company says it plans to expand its coverage after almost nine in ten readers gave it the thumbs up in a survey.

The Woking News & Mail is aiming to provide more news about rural areas on its patch as a result of reader responses to a questionnaire which it commissioned.

The survey revealed 89pc of all respondents are “very/fairly satisfied” with the newspaper, while 91pc of readers and 82pc of advertisers said they are “satisfied”.

The News & Mail had ceased publication in March 2011 after its former owner the Guardian Media Group was unable to find a buyer, but local business Knaphill Print and Web decided to step in following the announcement.

Commenting on the survey’s results, managing director Terry Tidbury said: “Our focus is hyper local and we have already seen a positive response to that in our readership figures.”

“This is a clear indication of the trust our readers have in their local newspaper. It’s incredibly rewarding to know our readers value the News & Mail reporting by a local, professional media team who cover news and events on their doorstep.”

“We are particularly interested in exploring some of the areas readers would like us to expand on, extending our coverage of news from villages within Woking.”
