Four new categories unveiled as media awards open for entries

WMA 2018Entries are open to this year’s Wales Media Awards with four new prizes up for grabs.

New categories including Specialist Journalist, Story of the Year and Digital Journalist of the Year, while a Magazine of the Year prize will also be given for the first time.

Existing category criteria have also been widened, with entries now welcomed from bloggers and vloggers in the Online News Reporter award, and the Feature Writer category celebrating good journalistic writing skills whether in the news environment or not.

Organisers have also re-titled the Student of the Year category The Ed Townsend Student of the Year Award in memory of a Journalists’ Charity committee member who played a pivotal role in re-establishing the Wales Media Awards.

Group categories up for grabs include Daily/Sunday Newspaper of the Year, Weekly Newspaper of the Year, Independent Community News Outlet of the Year and News Website of the Year.

Individual prizes include Print News Reporter of the Year, News Photographer of the Year, Online News Reporter of the Year, Political Journalist of the Year, Sports Journalist of the Year and Young Journalist of the Year.

Entries for the awards can now be submitted here, and the closing date for submissions is Monday 6 November.

Shortlists for each category will be announced in January 2018, and the Awards will be presented at a ceremony in Cardiff in March 2018 hosted by BBC NEws presenter Huw Edwards.
