A weekly newspaper has run a back page dedicated to female sport in what its publisher has claimed is a “world first’.
The Wokingham Paper ran three back page stories, pictured below, all featuring female athletes in last week’s.
The Paper says it aims to treat all sport equally, with the three stories picked for the back page being a coincidence.
It featured two articles on women’s football, as well as a piece on Muay Thai fighter Danielle Butler.
Wokingham Paper publisher Phil Creighton said: “We aim to treat all local sport equally and it’s a delight to share some great sporting triumphs with our readers.
“It just happens that this week, for the first time ever, the sports chosen for the back all feature female teams.
“The This Girl Can campaign aims to encourage women to take up sport – we’re showing Wokingham that they’re already active and not necessarily in traditional female dominated sports.
“We believe this is a world first and we hope it will be the first of many.”
A world first! Wow!
What’s next? The world’s first transgender back page?

Great that they’re celebrating women’s sport at last, but a world first? I don’t think so!

So what? The irony of this is mildly hilarious.

Can’t quite tell from the visual shown, but it looks like the byline on the right and the picture credit are both male names, which rather undermines the premise – which was a ludicrous one in the first place.
