Sister dailies’ astronaut pig statue installed at shopping centre

A pig statue in honour of British astronaut Tim Peake has been installed by two sister dailies.

The East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star had the pig decorated as part of the Pigs Gone Wild charity project, which aims to raise funds for St Elizabeth Hospice, in Ipswich.

The project has seen more than 40 pig sculptures transformed into works of art after being given out to organisations across Suffolk.

The EADT and Star opted to name their creation ‘Major Tim Pig’, below, in honour of Tim Peake, who was formerly based at RAF Wattisham, in Suffolk, during his military career.

The pigs are dotted across Ipswich, with Major Tim located at the Sailmakers shopping centre.

The artworks will be auctioned off for the hospice later this year.

Editor Terry Hunt said: “Tim Peake is a national hero in the finest British tradition of adventurers.

He added: “We think our very own Tim Pig will attract a huge amount of interest on the pig trail in Ipswich this summer.”
