North West writer retains sports journalism crown

A sports reporter on a North West daily has been named the best in the UK regional press for the fourth year running.

Jon Colman of Carlisle daily the News & Star and sister weekly the Cumberland News retained the regional sports writer of the year crown at last night’s Sports Journalism Awards.

It was Jon’s fifth title in all, having also won the award in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Highly-commended in the same category were Mark Douglas, of Newcastle’s Chronicle and Journal, and Mark Taylor of the Cambridge News.
