Daily business editor makes switch to PR

A former business editor who spent 18 years at a regional daily has made the switch to work for a PR company.

James Tourgout has left the Dorset Echo, where his latest role was as deputy news editor, and has now begun a new role as an account director for Deep South Media.

In the role, he will provide press office, communications and PR support for clients across the South and the West Country for the company’s PR division, whose clients include lawyers, civil engineers and schools.

James’ appointment brings the number of professional journalists working in the firm’s PR division to six.

He said: “I have joined Deep South Media at just the right time. The company is growing and I am looking forward to contributing to that continuing success.

“Everyone at Deep South Media has great experience, enthusiasm and expertise.”

Gareth Weekes, founder and managing director of Deep South Media, added: “In our experience trained and qualified journalists make the best communicators for our clients, who all have exacting standards and are often leaders in their fields.

“James is a great addition to the Deep South team and we’re very pleased to have him on board as we continue to expand organically across southern England.”
