Regional daily to appear in Stephen Hawking movie

A regional daily is set to appear in the forthcoming movie about the life of legendary scientist Stephen Hawking.

The Cambridge News wil be used as “set dressing” in the film The Theory of Everything which will star Eddie Redmayne as the famous physicist.

Filming for the biopic is currently taking place in the university city which is set in the early 1960s when Hawking was first diagnosed with motor neurone disease while studying for his PhD.

As well as being set to appear in the film, the News gained a world exclusive yesterday by publishing the first pictures of Redmayne in the Hawking role.

The paper, which was then known as the Cambridge Daily News, is to appear in Hawking’s flat and in a pub and college room.

And another link with the regional press comes in the shape of writer Tony Boullemier who will appear as an extra in the movie.

He tweeted yesterday:  “Just been costumed-fitted as an extra in upcoming #StevenHawking film #TheTheoryofEverything filming in Cambridge. I will be ‘a professor’!”

Tony started the Northants Post group, now owned by Local World, in the 1970s and recently wrote a book which aims to help children remember their English history.
