Newspaper hits shops late after production hitch

A regional daily newspaper has apologised to readers after being hit by production problems on Monday.

Dundee-based The Courier had difficulties ahead of Monday’s paper, which meant that its editions had fewer local stories than usual and it hit the shops late in some areas.

The DC Thomson title carried an apology on Tuesday about the problems, which it said were caused by production problems in the early hours of Monday morning.

It said some deliveries were delayed in the Fife, Angus and Dundee areas, although a spokeswoman for the publisher said this was only minor.

The apology read: “Due to production problems in the early hours of yesterday morning some Courier readers may not have received the depth of local coverage they would normally have expected. Some deliveries were also delayed in the Fife, Angus and Dundee areas.

“We are continuing to invest in new print facilities in Dundee and are working hard to ensure such problems do not affect readers’ enjoyment of The Courier in the future.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by yesterday’s difficulties. All relevant stories missed from yesterday’s editions have been included today.”

The DC Thomson spokeswoman said there had been less editionising of Monday’s Courier than usual as a result of the problems.

She said that although the paper normally had comprehensive local coverage in all its editions, this wasn’t the case on this occasion.
