NCTJ announces plans for photography seminar

The National Council for the Training of Journalists has announced plans to hold a photography seminar in September.

It will take place at Press Association headquarters in London on 27 September and the event also aims to reunite photographers from the first NCTJ press photography course in 1964.

The event will feature speakers from the industry including Ian Wright, a former student from the course, who will speak about his career which has seen him photographing the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, rock stars including The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and personalities like Alfred Hitchcock and Frank Sinatra.

Ian started his career at The Northern Echo before moving to The Sunday Times and later working for the Radio Times and other titles around the world.

At the conference, press photographers from newspapers and agencies will discussing training options and the industry and the NCTJ will release further details soon.

The first NCTJ photography course was a residential one held for 14 teenagers at Pendrell Hall, Wolverhampton, who all went on to have successful careers in the industry.
