Newspaper goes gold after Warriors’ win

A Midlands daily newspaper marked the success of its local rugby team by changing its masthead for one day.

The Worcester News swapped its red masthead to blue and gold in recognition of the Worcester Warriors winning promotion to the Aviva Premiership – the top flight of English rugby.

A 12,000 strong crowd watched the warriers beat the Cornish Pirates in the Championship play-off decider.

The team also produced a 72-page glossy souvenir which is available to buy from the paper’s website.

Editor Peter John said: “The normal red was replaced by the Warriors blue and gold colours, plus the club’s logo.

“The editorial team kept readers up-to-date with the score (and the tension) throughout the match with on-line and twitter coverage, and then produced six pages of reports and pictures in the two hours between the final whistle and print slot.”
