Newsagents back cover price rises

Newsagents in Scotland have applauded publishers for raising the cover price on their titles while maintaining retailers’ profit margins.

Scottish and Universal Newspapers, DC Thomson, Scottish Provincial Press and Johnston Press have all increased their cover prices since 1 January while maintaining newsagents’ existing terms.

Abdul Qadar, Scottish president of the National Federation of Retail Newsagents said:  “The NFRN applauds all these publishers for their actions.  We are encouraged that in difficult trading conditions, they continue to recognise the needs of independent retailers and support us in this way.”

Among the titles to see a price increase is the DC Thomson-owned Sunday Post, which has gone up by 10p to £1.10.
